Location Auchleven, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
Description Licklyhead Castle is a fortified Laird's house. It was built in the mid 16th century by the Leith family. It has passed through numerous families in its history including Leith, Forbes, Hay, Duff, Gordon and others. Licklyhead Castle is an L-plan castle with a three storey main block running east west. There are two storey circular turrets with conical roofs along the west. The attached wing projects southwards, and there is a circular stair tower corbelled out. The gables are crow-stepped, and the walls are now harled. The castle has been modernised over the years but still retains much of it's ancient character. Licklyhead is owned by the Seton family, and is still in use as a private residence.
