Dolforwyn Castle at sunrise. This castle was built in 1273 by the Welsh Prince Llewelyn the Last in direct confrontation to the English at Montgomery only a few miles away but it was captured by the English in 1277 and given to the Marcher family of the Mortimers. Much of the castle has been excavated and preserved over recent years but there is a settlement to the west which is still lies untouched.
Dolforwyn Castle, Powys. This castle is located some four miles north east of Newtown overlooking the Severn valley. It was built by the Welsh in 1273 but captured and badly damaged in 1277. It was left to decay but as can be seen some substantial masonry still stands.
